History

In October 1994, the airport name was changed to “Lago Vista, Texas, Rusty Allen Airport” to honor the long-time community leader and former mayor who has been involved in every major improvement for over 20 years. Rusty Allen and George Eeds owned a 1942 Piper L-4Cub used for emergency stretcher evacuation during World War II. At that time, there were only 16 other aircraft and 10 buildings/hangers. In 2017, the Rusty Allen airport is home to 83 based aircraft.

Balcones Canyonlands is a National Wildlife Refuge located in the Texas Hill Country to the northwest of Austin, Texas. The Refuge was formed in 1992  to preserve Texas Hill Country habitat for numerous wildlife species. The refuge hosts many special events that are fun for all ages such as guided nature walks, workshops and festivals. Lago Vista Municipal Golf Course is a par 72, 18-hole championship golf course  Offers over 6500 yards of fun and challenging play.  Originally introduced by vintage pro golfers Lee Trevino and Orville Moody. All golfers are welcome to enjoy the intriguing fairways, epic lake views, and abundant wildlife at Lago Vista Golf Course with restaurant, bar and pro shop. The practice facility at Lago Vista provides a relaxing atmosphere for honing your game with its beautiful view of Lake Travis. Three tiers of natural grass and synthetic teeing surface plus a practice putting green are available. Tennis courts too.

 

Keep Lago Vista Beautiful has won a grant from the Texas Native Plant Society to install a butterfly garden in the Lago Vista Municipal Sports Complex. We can each help return the threatened Monarch population to a better normal.  The Monarch Butterfly has been on a downward trajectory for decades.  Look for the sign “Monarch Waystation” to the right of the pool house on the inclined walkway. This designation is open to all who meet the criteria of the Monarch Watch  monarchwatch.org/waystations. ; Or just look for the butterflies. You too can be a part of the excitement at Keep Lago Vista Beautiful.
